On a drizzly Sunday morning perhaps not the first activity you think of to do is kayaking but we did a couple of weeks ago and made the journey to North Yorkshire water park near Scarborough. Everything you need is in with the price so all wetsuits too and lifejackets of course. I was a bit nervous having last done this type of thing on school camp in the 90’s, but I didn’t need to feel worried for long and weirdly enough the main thing I was fretting about was the water temperature! It was actually warmer in the lake than the drizzle coming down on us, but actually it wasn’t a problem and I really loved it and surprised myself! The kids were in their element especially Roo who was pretending to be Huckleberry Finn and sitting at the end of the kayak (there’s always one!) cue a frantic paddle half way across the lake to tell him to get back in properly!! We all said we would love to come and do it all again soon and it definitely wakes all the senses up on a Sunday!!
Our top tips:
Because of covid restrictions there are no changing rooms available so be prepared if you can, and if you have your own wetsuits great you can travel in them to avoid car park/in car changing! If not you go down to a staff monitored shed and they give you your suits 🙂
A hot drink and snack at the little on-site cafe was perfect afterwards and needed! Prices were great too.
Paddle boarding, kayaking, peddle boats and wild swimming are all available just check the website for detailed information for all of the times you can go along.

Take plenty of towels and flip flops/sliders are handy for the muddy bank leading to the boats, you can leave your keys/phone locked up securely with staff at the last minute which is useful.
Sometimes it is good to try something new, i’m really glad we did!

Have a water bottle in the car ready for colder days! The kids never feel the cold though do they!

Nature boy absolutely loved it, it was great to see him really enjoy himself after lockdown restrictions. It was a bit Swallows and Amazons!

I’m Cassie, a mum of 3, (most of the time I haven’t had chance to straighten my hair or drink a hot cup of tea) trying to juggle life as we all are and failing some of the time, but try and see my glass as half full!
