Sunny afternoon the kinks musical stockton globe

Sunny Afternoon is a story of friendship, fame and rock history, set to a soundtrack of era-defining songs that brings the sound of the 60s roaring back to life. Experience the electrifying true story behind The Kinks, the band that changed rock music forever, with a back catalogue of unforgettable hits including “You Really Got Me,” “Lola,” and “All Day and All of the Night.”

Stepping into the band’s legendary shoes are Danny Horn (Ray Davies), Oliver Hoare (Dave Davies), Harry Curley (Peter Quaife), and Zakarie Stokes (Mick Avory) — capturing the spirit, sound, and swagger of one of the most influential bands of the British Invasion.

With music and lyrics by the legendary Ray Davies, a book by Joe Penhall, original story by Ray Davies and direction by Edward Hall, Sunny Afternoon is a thrilling celebration of rock ‘n’ roll, rebellion, and the anthems that still move us today.

The atmosphere last night was electric and the show really does have everything.

The music was like being at a live gig you couldn’t help but dance and tap your feet along. Seeing the relationships between the band was phenomenal, the way they bounced off each other and flipped from scene to scene was dynamic and magical.

The music was just stunning, the band created a wonderful atmosphere and the talent the musicians had on stage was fantastic.

The supporting cast dance right around the stalls bringing the audience in to the era and sweeping them into the swinging sixties with ease!

I went along with my dad and it was wonderful to see how much he enjoyed the show, we talked about it and played songs in the car all the way home afterwards!

From a technical point of view the set is really adaptable and cleverly suits the story line of the building of a band. I loved the scene in the USA with the flags, it was very atmospheric and when Dave swings from the chandelier literally! The show is a feast for the eyes in a lot of the scenes with so much colour, energy and of course the most captivating music!

You could say the show “Really got me”!

The show runs at the beautiful Stockton Globe until Saturday 18th April so do book while you can as tickets are selling fast!
