Sometimes to escape the usual stress of this time of year taking a step into Pantoland is just the ticket and on a dark December Sunday we were transported to the magical tale of Cinderella and we truly had a ball! Darlington Hippodrome proved that theatre is back and looking around me it certainly looked like everyone had missed the thrill and excitement of the panto.

Lead by Faye Tozer and Patrick Monahan the cheeky Geordie twists to the traditional plot had the audiences creased and the pop classics were a treat for all those who came of age in the 90’s so bring your dancing shoes! Faye Tozer floated in as the charismatic and elegant fairy Godmother and showed off her stunning vocals in all her numbers.

Patrick made the perfect down-to-earth and relatable Buttons and his humour hit all the right notes with the audience. Tanisha Butterfield impressed as a delightful Cinderella with her gorgeous singing voice matched by her prince Jacob Leeson and Spin (Dandini). One of the funniest scenes was when Cinderella, the prince and Buttons were sitting on a log…you’ll have to watch out for it the kids were roaring with laughter! Another highlight was Patrick’s comedy flag scene and of course the 12 days of Christmas song (panto wouldn’t be right without it really!) and this was definitely the 9 years olds favourite bit!

Peter Peverley and Phil Corbitt thoroughly entertained all ages as the comedic Hernia and Verruca the iconic ugly sisters and their enthusiasm and experience shone through. Their costumes were spectacular too!

Our verdict:

” A classic tale with some cheeky Geordie banter thrown in, this panto packs a punch with some 90’s nostalgia thrown in for the grown ups and some hilarious comedy moments, you don’t want to miss it! Bring your dancing shoes! ”
