“You are precisely my cup of tea” sings Annalene Beechey who plays the fiesty Anna alongside Darren Lee (her passionate King) and from the moment you sit down to watch this spectacular production you’ll certainly agree.
From the wonderful Heavenly choral tones, charismatic acting and wonderful sets to the delightful young children who play the King’s children so beautifully this show truly was “Something Wonderful”.
The show is special to me as it is the first musical I ever performed in while I was an amateur dramatic society member and where I met my husband, I starred as a King’s wife and he was working backstage. The songs transport you and although some may call shows like The King and I dated, they are dated but in the way that times were different then. I felt the show although stuck to it’s original roots a lot was also a very strong tribute to the story. Anyone who is a Rodger and Hammerstein fan will know some of the shows are considered non-PC to a modern audience but they are still works of art, and the lyrics are stunning and joyous. It was great to see all ages at the theatre and what was not to enjoy about such a vivid and creative show. Stand outs for me other than the charismatic Annalene and Darren were Cerzarah Bonner who moved the audience to tears with her stunning vocal in Something Wonderful, it was really special and heartfelt.
The show was such a beautiful one, really worthy of attention, I loved every moment.
